Part Worn Tyres

We are often asked if we sell part worn tyres. We have a very simple answer - no!

Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle that is in contact with the road and we firmly believe that the ‘savings’ are not worth the risks.

The British Tyre Manufacturer’s Association conducted some stopping distance tests – they took a tyre at the legal limit of 1.6mm and a new tyre with a tread depth of 12mm. The new tyre stopped 12metres before the barely legal tyre. What tyres do you want on the car behind you?

Many problems with part worn tyres can only be found on the inside of the tyre. In 2010 illegal, defective or under inflated tyres were responsible for 1210 causalities in road traffic accidents. In a TyresSafe survey they found that 98% of part worn tyres available on the market were illegal and 34% were being offered for sale with dangerous and potentially life-threatening defects.

In fact after much research, some with alarming results, TyreSafe have launched a website dedicated solely to the advice and information surrounding the purchase of Part Worn Tyres.  Don't just take our word for it, visit their useful and informative site today.

If you are considering purchasing part worn tyres because of the price- the tyres could leave you more out of pocket than you bargained for. The maximum penalty for illegal tyres is £2,500 and three points on you license for EACH tyre.

If you consider the price per millimetre comparison of part worn between new, the figures can be staggering.  If take a typical 205 55 16 tyre and purchase a part worn tyre at 4mm wear at the price of £43.10 – when the tyre has been worn down to the legal limit it will have cost you £17.96 per mm. However, a new budget tyre of the same size costing £37.72 -by the time that it had reached it’s legal limit- it would have cost £4.81 and been cheaper in the first place!
